Treehouse Builds

Our first Treehouse Build will take place July 10 to 22, 2007, in beautiful Breckenridge, Colorado. This page is the central place to find information about the Build.

This Build is a 9-day session to primarily develop the software to support the SourceTree commons. Other work sessions will take place simultanously to concentrate on community building and organizational strategy, and to produce written documentation about the project. (more information about specific work is found under Who Should Attend) The last weekend, July 21 and 22, will be an opportunity for play and adventure in the mountains.

This event is underway! Please create a user account to add anything you see missing on this page, and to participate in the discussion forums regarding the project and the event. (the forums are also a great place to view more information about the event and offer feedback) We'll be posting notes and documents as we create them in our work sessions. To view these, go to the Event Documentation Page - these are documents that are being created by us collaboratively, and are a work in progress.

The house boasts 6 bedrooms, 5 baths, a huge kitchen and dining room, rec room, sauna and hot tub, and two decks overlooking the Rocky Mountains. The house will accomodate from 16-20 people, depending on sleeping arrangements. If we have more attendees, other arrangments for sleeping will be made (and we'll figure that out if necessary)

We will use the living room, rec room, and dining room as work areas during the sessions. The decks will also be available for working or relaxing. Food is provided at the event; we'll have three main meals and snacks. Please be sure to indicate allergies or meal preferences during your registration.

Logistics

Schedule

Start: Tuesday, July 10th at 6:00 pm
End: Sunday, July 22nd at 10:00 am

View the work session framework page for more information about the daily schedule.

The last weekend, July 21 and 22, is an opportunity for play and adventure in the mountains, after many days of hard work. (a few of the geek's wives will also be coming up, so I'll be lots of fun!)

Cost

There is no cost to attend the event. We think that since you are offering your time and talents, as well as having to travel, we couldn't ask for such a thing.

We hope to raise funds to support the travel costs of everyone attending. We have a "Make a Donation" button on the site to collect donations toward this fund, and should decide how to administer the donations we receive. (do we split funds equally between all who had to fly here? etc)

We expect a few outings into town for special meals or coffee or the Harry Potter premier, so bring some pocket money to cover these excursions.

Transportation

We plan to run shuttles between the event location and Denver International Airport, and so desire to coordinate as efficiently as possible. Please go to the Ride Board to post your flight arrival/departure times so we can coordinate.

Sleeping

We've created a place to manage the sleeping arrangements for the event. This will be improved as we get more information from participants about the dates they are attending.

Food

View the current meal plan for the event. (this is a pdf file that will open in your browser window) We're providing three meals per day plus snacks. If you would like to support the event, please use the "make a donation" button on the right menu to donate toward the food fund. Your contribution will make a big difference!

Register for the Event

If you are ready to come build with us, please fill out our registration form. This gives us important information about the dates you will be attending and sleeping arrangement preference. Don't worry; if you need to change the dates, you can do so on the participant status graph below, so go ahead and fill out the form.

Other Ways to Participate and Support the Build

If you can't join us in July, but are still excited about the project, there are several ways to participate in and support the Build. These include:

  • Design a logo for SourceTree Commons
  • Participate in discussions and planning for the project on our forums
  • Contribute to the travel fund to support the participants who will be traveling here (click on the "Make a Donation" button to the right)
  • Sponsor t-shirts for the event participants (Thanks to Nancy Peterson for the t-shirt sponsorship!)
  • Invite someone you know would be perfect for the event to participate
  • Get updates about SourceTree Commons through our News mailing list

You may also view the What's Needed? forum to identify and coordinate what else we must accomplish prior to the event.

Participant Status

The following table lists the people we've invited and their attendance status. Attending participants are bolded. Please feel free to make edits or updates to the list.

What to Bring (and other notes on preparation)

  • The event will take place at 10,000 ft. Be prepared for intense sun and less atmosphere. Bring sunscreen and drink LOTS of water during your trip. Adjust your alcohol intake accordingly (less is more)
  • We're in a semi-arid location. Bring plenty of layers, as it can get hot during the day, but much cooler at night. Bring long pants and good shoes if you plan on hiking.
  • The house has a sauna and hot tub. Please bring your bathing suit for some soaking!
  • We'll have high-speed wireless and might have a few workstations we can set up, but if you have a laptop computer, please bring it!

Please add to this list!

Extra-Curricular Activities

A place to propose and coordinate activities we can do for fun! After all, we will be in the Rocky Mountains!

We're thinking of using the last weekend as 'play time' in the mountains, an opportunity to unwind and relax before we go our separate ways.

Current opportunities include:

Thursday, July 12th - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix!

Other ideas: mountain biking, hiking, mountain picnic, etc
