First Treehouse Build Date Announced

Remember those conversations with Arthur Brock, Mickki Langston, Michael Maranda and others about SourceTree Commons? You may have been introduced at Recent Changes Camp Portland, The Omidyar Network, or some other venue. However you may have heard about us, we have two exciting pieces of news regarding the SourceTree Commons:

We have launched a drupal web site for collaborating on the project, found at: http://www.sourcetreecommons.org. When you create a user account, you will have access to starting and joining discussion forums, improving content, creating polls and forms, and whatever else your heart may fancy.

We are very excited to announce that our first ever “Treehouse Build” (yes, a cheesy way to refer to a code-a-thon) is set for July 10 to 22 in Breckenridge, Colorado. But this is more than a code-a-thon. We event will also include creating the community of SourceTree Commons, with work on shaping the flows of participation and membership, and writing several pieces of important documents on the project itself. All of this concurrent with software design, development, testing and documentation. If you are a geek or community builder who is excited about the project, we want you to attend! To register, go to http://www.sourcetreecommons.org/registrationform

We have immediate needs in the following areas:

  • A SourceTree Commons logo. You know, something cool that we can all be proud of
  • Discussion about the plan and schedule for the event
  • Sponsorship for participant t-shirts and food
  • Donations toward the travel fund for participants, and conversation about how to administer funds received

Please go to http://www.sourcetreecommons.org/treehousebuild for more details, participate in event coordination, and to find other ways to support the success of the event.

Even though the venue has been booked, there is still much to do to make the Build a success. We need your help in every aspect of creating this project and its community, and to be honest, we haven’t figured out how to open this project in a way that makes it easy for people to participate. We ask that you please engage in this dialogue with us, and give of your ideas and feedback so that we can build a community to support and grow the gift economy that is open source.
